In my discussion with my classmates in regards to my online connections,
I indicated I only have one. I have a LinkedIn profile that is fairly new and
I’m only connected to a few people. These connections are with professionals. I
believe these are strong ties and the professionals that I’m connected with
have endorsed certain skill sets that I have.
As I previously indicated in an older post, it’s hard to
stay in touch with family without some type of social network. I have friends
in the military and family that lives in the Netherlands. However, I think public displays of someone
social network has taken over to the point where people are consumed by it.
There seems to be no care for privacy and people’s daily
lives are on display. Beyond privacy there is also a need for operational security
(OPSEC). It’s a military term that is a process by which we protect information
that can be used against us. This can be applied to civilians as well. People’s
home may be targeted for a robbery if they are posting when they will be on
vacation and for how long.
